Our largest program is the YWCA Domestic Violence Prevention Center (DVPC), which provides safe refuge for women and children escaping violent homes through our Shelter since 1978. Every year, the DVPC houses approximately 250 women and children (and men sometimes), and served over 7,000 individuals (women, men and children). Services include:

Emergency Shelter and Food
24-hour staff on-site & 24-hour hotline
Support groups open to the public
Casework, counseling and court advocacy for all victims
Community education and awareness through presentations and brochures
Children’s Supervised Visitation Center at the Town Center.
In 2010 opened “Frannie’s House” in Altavista to house and serve rural domestic violence victims.
Advocate located in Danville serving City and Pittsylvania County.

The YWCA Sexual Assault Response Program (SARP) exists to ensure that survivors of sexual violence are provided the opportunity and means with which to recover from physical and psychological trauma. SARP is dedicated to providing free crisis intervention, support, advocacy, and information to survivors of sexual assault and abuse as well as to family members and friends. SARP is also dedicated to raising public awareness of sexual assault and personal safety. Services are offered 24 hours per day, seven days a week to residents of Lynchburg, Bedford and Danville Cities, and the Counties of Amherst, Appomattox, Bedford, Campbell and Pittsylvania. The YWCA took over this program from Crisis Line in January 2012.

We serve approximately 1,000 sexual assault victims, most of them children, every year.
