Thank you for viewing, but this campaign has ended. Please visit our new Outdoor Classroom campaign here:
The Greenhouse Project is a non-profit Nevada Corporation whose mission is: "Growing, giving and teaching for a healthier and greener community." Since breaking ground in 2010, we’ve applied this mission with ongoing educational outreach and community empowerment through summer youth programs, high school and college students, and adults in the community who volunteer with us and attend our free classes. We also provide work-based learning and career opportunities for local students and other community youth and adults. We apply our mission by growing fresh, nutritious produce as a community for the underserved of our community who rely on local food banks.
Now TGP needs your help raising funds for a proper outdoor classroom. As TGP has grown in size and scope, we have run out of adequate space and facilities needed to fully realize our mission of community empowerment through education. We struggle to accommodate the students and general public who rely on our Greenhouse and surrounding gardens for educational projects. With more and more of our resources being dedicated to growing crops for the local population and flowers for our annual urban beautification project, it has become increasingly difficult to dedicate a space that properly integrate student groups for educational purposes. This is particularly true, and particularly risky, when it comes to following our own best practices for growing crops in a climate-controlled environment that minimizes damage done by humans and the pests that we bring with us.
Our open-air classroom will enable hands-on learning adjacent to the existing greenhouse facility and accommodate groups of students while making use of the necessary technologies for agricultural education. This structure will enhance our ability to carry out our educational missions and work more effectively with other instructors. It also will greatly improve our ability to grow more crops more safely and effectively by eliminating unnecessary traffic through the greenhouse. Our main site at Carson High School has a dedicated area that allows for a 400 square foot, ADA-accessible, open-air structure with seating, tables and power supply for basic teaching technologies.
Thank you, Nevada!
