We are asking the community to band together for one of our own. Earlier this year, Lukas Koenig was looking forward to celebrating his 20th birthday and suddenly fell ill with what was thought to be the stomach virus that was going around. After a few trip to the doctors and emergency room, he was sent home with medication. However, the headaches and nausea had gotten worse and his vision ultimately became affected. While waiting anxiously for a scheduled neurology appointment, Lukas saw his local eye doctor for an exam. It was here that swelling was detected behind the optic nerves. Lukas was rushed to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick , which became his home for an entire month. Lukas was diagnosed with a non-germinomatous germ cell tumor (a rare brain cancer). Over the past five months Lukas has undergone surgeries, and is currently being treated with chemotherapy, radiation, and neuro cognitive therapy (due to hydrocephalus causing memory loss). While he has tremendous support from his family and friends (let's not forget his beloved dog, Kobe), we are hoping to help ease some of the financial stress placed upon Lukas and family during this time. After winning his battle, Lukas is very much looking forward to continuing his education at the Rutgers School of Engineering.
On Saturday, October 5, 2019 we will be hosting a spaghetti dinner fundraiser for Lukas at the Central Regional High School in Berkeley Township, NJ from 3 - 8 pm. Anyone who can not attend can donate here on crowdrise. All proceeds will benefit Lukas and his battle.
