We are asking your assistance to raise much needed funds and help us have a chance of winning the Newman’s Own Foundation $500k Holiday Challenge! Having access to funds of this nature would transform the services we can offer.
In early 2008, a group of parents held an international phone meeting to plan the creation of the first worldwide organization to focus on parents and carers of eating disorder patients. Caring for someone with an eating disorder is tough, scary and requires parents and carers to be the person's vision of wellness until they are able to be that for themselves. Eating disorders have the highest mortality rate of any psychiatric illness and families are the key to changing this statistic.
Almost 10 years later, the information, support, guidance and advocacy we provide to 7,000 members worldwide has changed the face of eating disorder treatment and the support families can access.
Among our goals as an organization are: to make sure families have access to science-based information and support services as easily and quickly as possible after diagnosis, to influence eating disorder organizations and professionals to consider family as a resource, and to improve public perception and understanding of eating disorders.
Any funds raised will go towards
- developing new online resources for families to access at their time of need
- local events designed to empower and educate families, and provide local networking and support
- ensuring families are represented and acontributing to though leadership at key eating disorder professional events
-developing resources for clinicians and services on including families in treatment.
We are a membership organization and supported exclusively by individual donations. We do not accept corporate sponsorship or advertising.
“ At my lowest and most panicked points, in the middle of the night, I’ve been able to get help and advice from people who ‘get it’ on the forum. That has been invaluable, when no-one else understood.”
If you are able to support us by making a donation, of whatever amount, we would be so grateful and so would the thousands of families, families like yours, who turn to F.E.A.S.T for help - often in their darkest hours.
“...there has always been someone there, at any time of day of night, with a virtual hug, especially when we have been in the darkest of places. That kindness has kept me going when I felt like giving up. Thank you!”
We promise to make your money go a very long way.
Thank you on behalf of the F.E.A.S.T Board, volunteers and families of those with an eating disorder
