When I was 5 years-old, my mom returned home after a meeting with a book called "It Takes a Child" by Craig Kielburger - the co-founder of WE Charity (formerly known as Free the Children). I read the book that afternoon and declared that I want to have a bake sale to help kids around the world. A few months later - in the month of September - right after we all returned to school, I held my first bake sale in front of my house with the help of my neighbours and family. I baked yummy chocolate and vanilla cupcakes, mini cakes and more. Within three hours, we raised thousands of dollars. With WE Charity staff on hand the whole time, I was so proud of what we had accomplished. From that moment, I declared: "I WANT TO BUILD A SCHOOL FOR EVERY YEAR I'M IN SCHOOL!" Here we are, 9 years later, I'm now 13 years-old, and I have helped contribute to 3 schools in Kenya (1 through the Change Heros initiative), 2 in Haiti, 1 in India, 1 in Rural China and 1 in Nicaragua. This year, I plan to raise money to build another school through the We Bake For Change initiative. All you have to do is come to my bake sale or donate online - that's it. Short and sweet! When I'm not advocating for WE Charity, I am a 9th grader in the Beach, Toronto. In 2015, I was awarded the Girl Greatness Award for Making a Difference from Girl Guide of Canada.
Thank you very much for taking the time to visit my initiative. Let's bake a difference together!
Big hugs, Bella.
