Childhood poverty is one of Vermont's leading problems, and our rural communities witness up to 80% of their children struggling in economic hardship. Donations and event proceeds from the 24 Hours are changing children's lives each and every day. Through the mission of the Stratton Foundation, we are addressing the challenges that stand between a child in need, and the chance to not only survive, but also thrive and succeed.
The 24 Hours of Stratton has transformed the Foundation's impact on change by initiating and facilitating critical programs and services, such as providing weekend and summer food backpack programs, funding in-school dental hygienist for children that have never seen a dentist, sustaining mental health care, providing life changing scholarships and targeted education in ways that is increasing high school graduation rates, trade/college attendance, and more!
A child born into poverty is a child without hope. Imagine sleeping without a bed or pillow, being in constant oral pain, wearing shoes that don't fit, having no change of clothing, being without a sense of purpose, unable to cope, all while worrying where your next meal will come from. All of these factors affect the ability to concentrate and succeed in school, and life.
This is why the 24 Hours of Stratton athletes raise money and ski around the clock. It's about providing not only basic human needs but changing the destiny of children who live in the rural areas around the mountain that gives so much in return. Over the past 7 years the 24 Hours of Stratton has raised over $1,800,000 making a big and direct impact on Hunger, Health, Dental, Basic Necessities, Warmth, and innovative Education designed to propel children out of the cycle of generational poverty.
On behalf of the children and families who benefit from the generosity of the 24 Hours....we thank you. WATCH 'THE HEART OF STRATTON' GIVING MOVIE TO LEARN MORE!
