In October of 2017, my mother went in for her routine mammogram at the Auerbach Breast Center at NWH. Following her 3D mammogram, she was informed of two abnormal masses that were discovered. After a biopsy, it was confirmed that my mother had breast cancer.
Receiving a cancer diagnosis is never easy, no matter the type or stage. However, thanks to the resources provided by the Vernon Cancer Center, my family was able to recieve free counseling, through the PACT Program, on how to confront and cope with a cancer diagnosis. My mother was also able to receive free personal training sessions, aimed at tailoring her active lifestyle to her new lifesyle post-mastectomy. The trainer was incredibly knowledgable about the side effects of mastectomies and helped my mom to develop new workout routines. My mother has also benefited from other numerous resources provided by the Vernon Cancer Center and continues to visit the center once a month for treatment. All of these resources wouldn't be possible without the funds raised by teams, such as Team NWH. I am so honored to be running for such an incredible organization and am excited to help contribute to the Cancer Center's Initiative.
Newton-Wellesley Hospital’s Team NWH will run the 123rd Boston Marathon on Monday, April 15, 2019.
Funds raised by Team NWH will benefit cancer care at Newton-Wellesley Hospital, giving patients access to life-saving treatments and highly individualized, compassionate care that treats every component of a patient’s wellbeing: physical, emotional and more.
Thank you for supporting this extraordinary group of runners and supporting cancer care at Newton-Wellesley Hospital
