Dear Ballet Tech Friends,
When I was in the 4th grade, a group of staff members from Ballet Tech visited my school in Brooklyn. New to ballet, I never imagined that I would be selected for their part-time program where I learned the basics of the dance form. Yet, I excelled and one year later was enrolled as a full-time student and undertaking dance classes every day. I grew up at Ballet Tech, starting as a feeble 4th grader into a grizzled high school senior. Each year, I learned more and I trained with some of the most celebrated dancers in New York City. I feel blessed for this education that cost my parents absolutely nothing.
But, what do I do now? A dancer you ask? No! I am a professional footballer most recently closing out my rookie season for the Tulsa Roughnecks soccer team. Playing professionally has always been my dream and unquestionably, it is BALLET TRAINING that massively contributed to getting me here.
Ballet Tech gave me the physical training as well as the determination to go into the world and do anything I wanted. As ballet students we are competitive with each other and ourselves. Who jumps the highest? Who can execute most pirouettes? We condition our bodies and our minds. I learned early on how to push through stressful and challenging situations in and out of the studio.
I thank Ballet Tech for where I am today. While I practice now on the field and not in the studio, it is with the same tenacity I approach my vocation. And it all started with one audition.
Join me and bring dance to the next generation by donating to our Audition Campaign today! Your help will provide funding for audition staff, travel and arrangements. New York City is full of incredible kids. Who knows what young star your support will uncover!
