In 2015 the Dixie Wing’s Corsair ‘530’ participated in the Arsenal of Democracy 70th Anniversary of VE Day Flyover. Planning is already underway for the 75th Anniversary event in 2020. By then the Dixie Wing plans to bring the airplane back to peak wartime condition. The task of bringing the airplane back to peak wartime condition is monumental in scale – and ultimately it will cost more than $250,000 – which will include a new engine for the aircraft, an overhaul of the aircraft’s air frame and its sub-systems. The Wing is hoping to use funds raised during the 12 Planes of Christmas campaign to replace the engine with a freshly overhauled Pratt & Whitney R-2800 and a complete engine compartment restoration. This first step in the overall restoration will cost a little over $100,000.
