Donations to Council on Aging support programs that provide in-home care services to frail seniors, such as home-delivered meals, transportation to the doctor, wheelchair ramps, and help with housekeeping and bathing.
These basic but critical services are not covered by Medicare and can make the difference between being able to remain independent at home or having to move to a nursing facility.
The services supplement care that is provided by families or are a lifeline for seniors without family nearby to help them. Annually, nearly 13,000 older adults are able to remain in their homes with the help of these services.
Kathi, a caregiver friend of ours who took care of her aged parents for ten years, put it this way: "(Caregiving) is a full time job and I already have a job and family. It's a leaky bucket and every day, there's another leak. I couldn't do it without the help of Council on Aging programs."
Our mission: Enhance people's lives by assisting them to remain independent at home through a range of quality services.
Our vision: Every individual in our region shall have a choice and a range of services and programs that will assist them to remain independent in their chosen environment.
