BENEFITING: CELIAC DISEASE FOUNDATION
ORGANIZER: CELIAC DISEASE FOUNDATION
My name is Caitlin Westerfield and on November 6th, 2016, I am running the TCS New York City Marathon on Team Gluten Free. All money raised by this organization goes directly to the Celiac Disease Foundation.
In October of 2012, my cross country team volunteered at mile 16 of the Chicago Marathon, handing out gatorade to the runners. While some of my teammates only saw the pain and exhaustion of the marathoners, an idea began to form in my mind that someday I could run a marathon too. By the end of the day, I decided that the fall of my freshman year of college I would run a marathon.
The money raised in this fundraiser goes to support the Celiac Disease Foundation. Founded 26 years ago, this organization works to promote awareness about Celiac Disease and supports research aimed towards finding a cure. It lobbied the FDA for the current gluten-free labeling rule and worked to create today's multi-billion dollar gluten-free food industry. In January of 2015, my sister was diagnosed with Celiac Disease. By running this race, I hope to promote an organization that labors every day to improve her life and the lives of millions of others around the globe.
Thank you for your support and donations,
