INTRODUCTION

The 9 Months In Romania (#9MonthsInRomania) human rights project and fundraiser is all about combating human trafficking and sexual exploitation in Romania, which is considered the top country for trafficking in the EU and 3rd in the world. Not only that, but this project is also about truly empowering the young women who have been affected by such undeniably terrible human rights offenses. Through this program, our ogranization will be creating programs and services to help them build new lives that include security and prosperity, but that don't include the emotional, psychological, and sometimes physical abuses they are subjected to presently.

TIMELINE

As the name of the project suggests, this project will take place over a period of 9 months. Tentatively, this is the timeline for the project:

Month 1 (Acclimate) - The first month will be spent getting acclimated with the areas we will be working in.

Months 2-4 (Research) - Afterward, the next 12 weeks will be spent conducting research clinics, which will operate similar to focus groups. Research participants will be women who are currently ensnared by the pornography industry, via webcam sex chatting. They will be offered a stipend for their participation. These clinics will be conducted in both cities we're focusing on with this project, in facilities provided by partner-universities.

Months 5-7 (Development) - Utilizing the knowledge that was gathered over the course of research period, the next 12 weeks will focus on developing programs and services that assist ensnared women with escaping and creating new secure lives for themselves. A few pre-selected research candidates from both cities will help test the practicality and usefulness of these proposed programs and services.

Months 8-9 (Implementation) - With all of the foundational research out the way, the next 8 weeks will be used to implement programs and services, as well as to compile and publish all research findings. This published report will aid legislative and law enforcement officials in combating similar trafficking activity all over the world.

SUCCESS METRICS

In order to measure the productivity and success of this project, we will consider the following metrics, our success metrics:

Number of Research Candidates and The Overall Impact of the Information Provided During Research Clinics - How many women were we able to reach through our research clinics? Overall, how effective was the information we provide them during the clinic at increasing their understanding of the problem. To gauge this, we will conduct a survey at the onset of the clinic, to establish a baseline, and then conduct another survey at the conclusion of the clinic.

Number of Viable Services or Programs We Can Come Up With Based on Research Results - How many viable services or programs can we come up with utilizing the findings of our research? We will only count those we can viably and realistically begin to implement by the end of the project.

Reception of Project and of Resulting Services and Programs - How are the people we are interacting with for the sake of the project and the public in general receiving the project and the resulting programs and services?

FINANCIAL NEEDS

The minimum goal of this fundraiser is $100k USD. The goal for phase 1 of this fundraiser is $65k.

Roughly 19% of the total budget will be dedicated to the research portion of the project. Expenditures for this portion of the project may include, but are not limited to research facilities deposits/fees, research participants stipends, computer equipment required to conduct research clinics, non-volunteer personnel (I.e. security guards), materials (I.e. office supplies).

About 25% be utilized for the development and implementation of programs and services aimed at assisting victims with escaping the industry and making a fresh start, and also those that will help educate the public about truth behind the human rights atrocities the pornography industry is committing in Eastern Europe via webcam sex chatting websites and studios. Programs and services may include, but are not limited to psychological/emotional well-being, physical well-being, legal assistance, personal finances and budgeting, career preparation and training, housing and utilities assistance, food and nutrition assistance

Apart from the costs associated with necessary research, developing and implementing programs and services, there are numerous other related expenses that come up as well. To cover such expenses, roughly 41% of the total budget will be dedicated to these necessary expenses. Examples of these “other related expenses” include, but are not limited to salary for necessary ZPF staff, setup/operation of a small ZPF office in Romania, legal fees. licensing, certification, and registration fees, project marketing/PR, project costs leading up to month 1 in Romania.

Finally, the smallest portion of this budget, about 15% of the total, will be used to cover necessary living expenses incurred by the project’s Organizer & Lead Researcher relocating to Romania for the full nine-month period. Eligible expenses include, but are not limited to travel costs to/from Romania, housing rent/lease, utilities, food/groceries, toiletries/hygiene, transportation costs, medical costs, reasonable stipend for miscellaneous expenses.
