What do butterflies and zebras have in common?
Both are featured at the 8th Annual North Texas Zebra PHest on Saturday, October 25, 2014. The fun includes a 5K race, 1M walk, a free 100 yard dash for kids, butterfly release, face painting, raffle, silent auction, vendor booths, music and a picnic. See www.zebraphest.com for details…you can even be a virtual runner!
The event supports research for a cure for Pulmonary Hypertension, a rare incurable disease affecting nearly 34,000 people globally and 1,000 here in the D/FW area. This disease knows no boundaries and affects the lives of men, women, seniors and most sadly, children.
Symptoms can include fainting, shortness of breath, fluid retention. It takes an average of 2.8 years for a correct diagnosis, during which time the health of individuals is critically compromised. Often PH can be misdiagnosed as common diseases like COPD or Asthma.
In medical school doctors are taught when you hear hoof beats think these common ailments, but we want doctors to take a closer look. They just may find the stripes of a medical Zebra!
Please help us launch our event to new heights with our first butterfly release in honor and memory of PH patients! Many of our ZebraPhriends have stories of tragedy and triumph they are willing to share to help reduce the years of anguish and misdiagnosis someone else may endure. We invite you to come and meet Zeb our mascot, join in the fun and support some amazing ZebraPHriends
