BENEFITING: The Grassroot Project
EVENT DATE: Oct 25, 2015
As a former Division I athlete, I have a huge affinity for The Grassroot Project. Having grown up playing sports in the greater Washington DC area, I wanted to make the Marine Corps Marathon my first full marathon experience and find a charity partner where I had a true connection. I was immediately drawn towards The Grassroot Project, with a great appreciation for the positive influence student-athletes have on our youth, particulary when it comes to making healthy lifestyle choices.
Marathon details can be found at http://www.marinemarathon.com.

WHO WE ARE:
The mission of The Grassroot Project (TGP) is to use sports to educate at-risk youth in Washington D.C. about HIV/AIDS awareness and prevention. The Grassroot Project engages at-risk youth in Washington D.C. by partnering with athletes from Georgetown University, George Washington University, Howard University, Maryland University and other DC area universities. The student athletes address the prevention of HIV/AIDS through an interactive curriculum of over 15 games and activities that encourage participatory learning of basic HIV prevention information, stigma, and discrimination. By using the vehicle of sport to influence social change, the programs allow kids to share their feelings and beliefs, increase knowledge, and develop healthy attitudes and behaviors.
WHAT YOU CAN DO:
Run with us towards the day of an HIV/AIDS free generation. Team Grassroot is TGP’s full and half marathon and 10k program. Match my donation, or please do what you can to support this worthy cause!
