Join our Campaign to Welcome More Students to YouthBuild!

There are three million young people in the USA, ages 16 to 24, who were born into poverty and left high school without a diploma for many reasons, and are now unemployed. They are seeking a pathway out of poverty and despair. YouthBuild programs are turning away thousands of them each year, due to inadequate funding. Join us to open our doors to more students seeking to rebuild their communities and their lives!

In YouthBuild programs students enroll full-time for about a year. They participate half-time in highly individualized and supportive classrooms, studying for their high school diploma or the equivalent. They develop construction and job skills through building affordable housing for homeless and low-income people in their communities. Some also do hands-on training in health care, customer service, or in the IT field.

Mentored by deeply caring staff, they develop a strong peer culture of mutual respect and appreciation. They leave ready to start careers in construction or go on to college to pursue other careers. They internalize the ethic of service and a sense of responsibility for their communities. Many emerge as committed young leaders, determined to improve the conditions that have created suffering for their families and their peers.

Nationally, there are 260 rural and urban YouthBuild programs in 46 states engaging 9,000 students. We aim to double these numbers.

Your donation will strengthen our advocacy and provide leadership development opportunities for graduates to participate in that advocacy.
