Founded in 1852, we are the second oldest YMCA in the United States and the largest in North America. Each year the Y serves 500,000 people through 22 local YMCAs, two Counseling Service Centers (for mental health and substance abuse treatment), seven New Americans Welcome Centers (for immigrant services), three campsites in upstate New York and more than 150 program sites citywide.

Among private nonprofits, the Y is the largest youth services provider in New York. The Y is open and inclusive: we serve all people regardless of background or citizenship status, and we never turn a young person away because of an inability to pay program fees. Most of the youth we serve come from underserved communities and low-income households.

The Y offers a broad range of programs and services designed to help young people cultivate the values, skills and relationships that lead to success in school and in life. They include infant daycare and preschool; an after-school program that serves approximately 8,500 students, grades K–8, at 70 schools citywide; teen programs promoting civic engagement, leadership skills, and college and career readiness; evening Teen Centers for recreation and social development; mental and behavioral health counseling; summer camp, including day and sleep-away camps; international travel and cultural exchange with YMCAs around the world; and sports leagues, swimming lessons and fitness training.
