BENEFITING: YMCA Greater Boston
ORGANIZER: YMCA Greater Boston
EVENT: 2016 Boston Marathon
EVENT DATE: Apr 18, 2016
I was fortunate enough to be chosen for the YMCA's 2016 Boston Marathon Team and the reasons Y I am honored to fundraise for The YMCA are many. The YMCA is a non-profit very personal to me. When my husband Nino and I got custody of my nephew Michael many years ago, the YMCA was the first resource we reached out to, for after-school care. The YMCA helped Michael with his homework, took great care of him, and forged important relationships with him that he remembers to this day.
The YMCA also sent Michael to Northwoods Camp in NH for two years in a row. There, he learned many skills, made friends, swam, learned to shoot a bow and arrow, kayak, fished, sailed, and was able to enjoy the great outdoors while learning to be independent. Those two summers were a great experience and opportunity for him.
This year, Michael turned 16 and got his first summer job at the YMCA. He learned to be a leader, delegate, and be responsible for younger kids, while earning his own money. As you can see, the YMCA has been instrumental in our lives, and we really appreciate what they've done for our family. I thought this was a perfect opportunity to try and give back to the YMCA.
In additon to Michael, I have a son of my own, Lucas, and a stepdaughter Lauren who lives in Georgia. I was a teenage Mom. My son is now 25, graduated college and works for a Bio-Tech company in Cambridge. I value the importance of the Teen Programs that the YMCA offers because it keeps them busy and gives them options and choices...so they can stay out of trouble, off the streets, healthy, informed, and safe.
The money I raise, with your help, will be used directly for the following Teen Programs: Cyber Bullying, EBalance (a health and wellness program that incorporates the gym and physical activity along with proper nutrition), Teen Sports Leagues, Teen Nights (crafts, mentorships, cooking class), Safe Dates, Pathways to College, Skills Classes (CPR, Babysitting, First Aid), and so much more.
I would really appreciate your donation; no amount is too small and it really is for a great cause that is very dear to me. Also, it is tax-deductible and both you and the YMCA will benefit :)
Thank you so very much for your consideration.
