I’m volunteering & running a 5K on May 6th to help non-profit RPGA Studio's project 'Women Who Build: A Tiny House Build in NYC' build and raise money to meet their $15K goal for build materials & supplies.
Women Who Build - Artists Who Own is about empowering women & girls to work together and learn to build over 8 months (Nov. 2016-June 2017), gain confidence in using power tools, and expand their networks. The program is free, has people ages 16 to 60+, and everyone contributes through work they're doing on various teams from skill-building to marketing. Each of us is taking responsibility to learn, share, & grow.
RPGA Volunteer & Executive Director Yvonne Shortt is raising $10,000 while fellow volunteers and participants raise the additional $5,000.

After the tiny house is built it will travel the 5 boroughs with participants in the project discussing innovative strategies people are taking to deal with higher rent/workspace costs, lower wages, and community empowerment.
After that, it will be used as a mobile education facility to teach design and construction skills to women and share how others are developing creative solutions to pay for housing/workspaces.
