Ten people and one bathroom. That’s how I grew up. That’s right, 10 people - my Mom and Dad, my two brothers, Andrew and David, and my five sisters, Natalie, Sarah, Meghan, Hannah, and Melanie - and one tiny, cramped, usually smelly bathroom.
My family didn’t have a lot, but what we had was enough. We had a back yard, a big dining room table, and space to play. We had sport, and sport was all we needed.
Sport raised me. Competition shaped me. Without it, I wouldn’t be who I am, and my family wouldn’t be what it is. Sport opened the door to unimagined possibility. It paved the way for each of my siblings to go to college. The first generation in my family.
Six girls, six Division 1 field hockey players. One Olympian, 3 Olympics, and four national team athletes. My sisters and I were the direct beneficiaries of Title IX, and the work of the Women’s Sports Foundation WSF.
On November 5, I will serve, and contribute to the legacy of female empowerment through sport as I run the TCS NYC Marathon for the Women’s Sport Foundation. Support me, support the girls and women in your life, donate to the Women’s Sports Foundation TCS NYC Marathon Team. Your contribution will give a girl the opportunity to complete, play, and discover new possibility.
Serve her by giving her the opportunity to serve the world in a big way.
Donate now, Donate here. The world needs her, and it needs you! It needs us.
On Sunday, November 5th, the Women's Sports Foundation's team comprised of female champion athletes, including three-time Olympic Field Hockey Player Rachel Dawson, Champion Cross-Country Skier Annie Pokorny, Author and Fitness Expert Barbara Grufferman and YAS Fitness Center Founder Kimberly Fowler will be running the 2017 TCS New York City Marathon as Official Charity Partners and will be fundraising to further the Women’s Sports Foundation’s mission to ensure access to sports for all girls.
The Women’s Sports Foundation was established in 1974 by tennis icon, Billie Jean King, to advance the lives of women and girls through sports and physical activity. We believe in the power of sports to teach confidence and teamwork. We are dedicated to creating leaders by ensuring girls access to sports and the benefit there of. We provide financial fuel to aspiring champion athletes. We fund groundbreaking research. We educate. We advocate. And we help communities get girls active.
