Helping Kids feel like Kids
March 04, 2017
The With One Word Foundation is a family owned and operated Non-Profit 501(c)(3) founded in 2008. In 2014, our co-founder Natasha Johnson, a then 28-year-old Domestic Violence Survivor, had a vision to redesign her family's foundation to bring resources and awareness to the issues of Verbal and Emotional Abuse associated with Domestic Violence and Teen Dating Violence.
Today, With One Word operates primarily self-funded with a volunteerism mentality where we are active in our community giving back and making an impact. Where we and other organizations lack financial support, we dedicate ourselves to giving something money cannot buy...love.
From starting a reading and empowerment program for children at a local Domestic Violence safety shelter to educating students in middle and high schools about Teen Dating Violence, we are making a difference one day and one person at a time.
We often address the personal needs of abuse victims such as food, clothing, and items for their children. We hear a lot that these children need attention and simple items like a stuffed animal. That is where With One Word really steps up, giving these children love and supplies to help them simply feel like a kid again.
$2.50 provides one crayon and coloring book set for a child at the Domestic Violence safety shelter. These children often arrive with little to no personal belongings.
$10 helps with travel to Charlotte, NC middle/high schools for educating students on Teen Dating Violence and prevention or provides 10 can/dry food goods for the shelter food pantry. This pantry helps provide residents with food until they are able to be situated with a food stamp program.
$15-$20 provides 2 children with an age appropriate care package upon arrival at the shelter.
$25 provides 10 children with coloring sets or 25 can/dry food goods.
$100 helps purchase reading books for each child to keep and tutoring items.
$3,000 will help for one-time needed supplies (tent, printed materials, etc) to organize outreach events throughout the NC/SC/GA/TN/VA region to bring awareness to DV and TDV as well as help connect victims to counseling, legal, and housing services near them.
We currently do not operate on grants, so any and ALL donations help tremendously. We also accept donations of new or gently used reading books or new art/activity supplies for our reading and empowerment program for children in shelter care.
With One Word is proud to be a member of the Teen Dating Violence Awareness Committee of Mecklenburg County and the City of Charlotte (North Carolina), a member of the Art With Heart Committee, and Natasha Johnson is proud to be a National Ambassador for the Love Is Not Abuse Coalition with Break the Cycle.
Please consider donating to our cause and helping us make an even greater impact!
