Wild Baby Rescue Center is an ALL VOLUNTEER, non profit Wildlife Center in North Western New Jersey that cares for hundreds of injured and orphaned Wild Baby Animals every year for the past 16 years. We provide the youngest and most fragile babies with the formula, food, medicine, and care that need to thrive. All of our babies are given the opportunity, support and skills they need to return to the wild. With the rising encroachment of humans on Wildlife Habitat, Wild Baby Rescue Center is caring for more injured and orphaned babies than ever before. Olivia, Our Surrogate Mom
Opossums are great Mothers and Olivia is living proof. Months ago we admitted a Mother Opossum with a pouch full of Joeys, 7 to be exact, 4 boys and 3 girls. We named her Olivia (after the show the Waltons and named the joeys for each of the Walton Children, Elizabeth, Erin, Mary Ellen, Ben, Jason, Jim Bob and John Boy. Mother, Olivia was very thin and was suffering from some hair loss. We improved her diet and gave her a large, quiet, clean place to raise her young. Everyday she cared for her Joeys, nursing them, cleaning them and keeping them warm. Both Mother and Joeys were doing well. As her Joeys grew large and more independent they began eating solid foods and spending most of their time out of the pouch.
A month later we admitted more tiny Joeys. Their Mother had been killed, hit by a car. These Joeys were too small to survive without a surrogate Mother.
Olivia’s Joeys could survive without her now and we carefully put each tiny, new, pink Joey into her pouch. She is such a wonderful Mom and cared for, fed and protected her adopted Joeys just as she had cared for her own. Olivia is the proud Mother of 4 Joeys, now on their own, Patty, Percy, Penny and Prim.
Your DONATION allows stories like Olivia’s to have a happy ending. Olivia and all of her Joeys Thank You for Your Support.
