The Wichita Family Crisis Center’s 2000 Dodge Caravan has reached a point where it no longer provides safe and reliable transportation for the women and children who stay in our shelter.
Victims often arrive at shelter with nothing more than the clothes they are wearing. A key service provided by the Wichita Family Crisis Center is transportation assistance to school, medical appointments, and court hearings (to secure protection orders). As our current van reaches a point where safety is a concern, the purchase of a new or slightly used van becomes critical to our service delivery. Nearly 300 women, children, and men stay in shelter each year while they are working to rebuild their lives. For many of the individuals, public transportation is not a safe option due to the risk of being located by an abuser.
The shelter van is also used by advocates for grocery shopping and picking up shelter supplies and donations. Sometimes the van is used to pick up prescriptions, medication and other items that are needed immediately. Having reliable transportation is critical to our mission and the delivery of quality services. We ask for your help to purchase a new of slightly used van for our emergency shelter.
