EVENT DATE: Apr 26, 2015
Wendy Walk Foundation is dedicated to raising funds and awareness for rare sarcoma cancers, and to establishing a support community for those battling against these orphan cancers. The organization was created in 2010 by Ali, Matt and Jackie Landes to support their mother, Wendy Landes, in her battle with Liposarcoma, a rare form of cancer that affects the fat cells. Because of the rarity of this cancer, sarcoma researchers must rely primarily on private funding, because government funds are allocated to more well-known cancers. Today, in large part due to our efforts, there are thousands of people around the world who know about and are working to find a cure for Liposarcoma and other rare sarcoma cancers.
The Wendy Walks are held annually in Los Angeles, Miami, New York City, and Park City. In addition to the walks, the charity hosts “Wendy Walk Cocktail Night” in NYC, “Wendy Walk Brunch for a Cure” in LA, spin events (Wendy’s favorite athletic activity) and other types of events in many cities. Since its inception, Wendy Walk has raised more than $2 million dollars to fund research on rare sarcoma cancers. Sadly Wendy passed away in March 2013. Wendy Walk lives on to honor Wendy’s memory and to give strength, hope and comfort to others battling Liposarcoma and other orphan sarcoma cancers. In response to the isolation and hardships that undoubtedly accompany rare cancers, Wendy Walk Foundation works to promote compassion, empathy, positivity, and, most importantly, a sense of community to demonstrate that individuals and families affected by orphan cancers can still maintain a life of joy, athletic activity and connectedness. Thanks to the efforts of the Wendy Walk, there are now thousands of people around the world who know about these diseases and are working to find a cure.
Please help us continue this important effort by starting your own Wendy Walk CrowdRise fundraiser. Together, we can find the cure!
