BENEFITING: WELLSPRING
EVENT: 2017 Allstate Foundation Purple Purse Challenge Division II
EVENT DATE: Oct 02, 2017
THE STORY:
Having finished the 2016 contest 5th place in the nation, the goal for Wellspring in 2017 is to show the rest of the country that Saratoga County is a champion in ending relationship abuse. To achieve this, our goal is nothing less than finishing in 1st place, and claiming the grand prize—$100,000 in bonus money.
For nearly 40 years, Wellspring has been committed to helping survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. In that time, we’ve assisted tens of thousands of individuals. What started to provide basic shelter and crisis services today has a vision of ending relationship and sexual abuse in our community. To achieve this vision we continue to expand our focus and services to include prevention and social change.
Each year, our crisis intervention and survivor services support more than 1,000 clients—providing safe housing to adults and children either fleeing or homeless because of domestic violence, as well as comprehensive support in the form of counseling, legal advocacy, and case management. While helping victims in need is a major focus of the Agency’s mission, we know that by increasing awareness we can end intimate partner violence. Wellspring staff provides prevention and education programs to almost 6,000 school-aged youth, as well as training and education programs for parents, faith based congregations, and professional organizations.
