We Run for Lilly
Organized by: Zach Ziemann
EVENT DATE Nov 05, 2016
The cause: On May 20th, 2016 Lilly Johnson, a student-athlete at Concordia University Wisconsin, was diagnosed with stage 2b Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. This means that Lilly has multiple areas of her body, specifically behind her right clavicle and in front of her heart, that are infected with cancer tumors. The “b” signifies that she experiences night sweats and fatigue.
Due to chemotherapy treatments Lilly has been unable to work this summer and will miss the fall semester of 2016. Lilly plans to come back to school for the Spring semester of 2017 however, the financial burden of medical expenses, past and future, along with the cost of schooling has made the road back a rough one.
How we can help: Although Lilly is not currently at school or able to run for the Cross Country and Track team, CUW’s Cross Country team has decided to dedicate their season to their teammate, Lilly. “We run for Lilly,” is being taken to the next level and we need your help.
Coach Russ Delap and the Cross Country/Track team invite you to support Lilly. A Runraiser has been organized. Similar to a typical fundraiser, a Runraiser requires donors to pledge a certain amount per mile. Coach Delap will run from 11:00 am on November 5th to 10:00 am on November 6th. During that 24-hour period the number of miles he runs will determine your pledge. Alternatively, you may give a donation of a set amount right now at this webstie. We will also be selling, “We Run for Lilly” bracelets for $2 on the campus of Concordia University Wisconsin. Please note we cannot accept checks for any donation.
However, we don’t want the support to end financially. We encourage everyone to go out for a run, whether it is for 1 minute, 1 mile, or 100 miles. Take a picture and post it with the hashtag, #WeRunForLilly Let’s come together to support Lilly! Thank you.
