Every day, children as young as 12 are unable to get an education because instead they need to collect water for their family. Many of us take our easy access to water for granted, but in other parts of the world, people don't live near a clean and reliable water source, and don't have access to a sanitary washing station, which leaves children and adults alike at risk for illness or a deadly disease.
The task of collecting water is usually given to women and girls. In sub-Saharan Africa, a study found that men spend about 6 million hours a day collecting water, while women and girls spend about 16 million hours collecting water.
Our youth group pledges to go silent for a day in order to bring attention to this issue. If you donate, you help communtites have hand pumps and systems, wells, piping for clean water into a school or community, sanitation in schools, build latrines and hand washing facilities, allow young girls to stay in school and get an education, and much more. Please help us give these children access to clean water and sanitation, and thank you so much for your donation!!!
