EVENT DATE: Oct 10, 2015
Join Women for Afghan Women on Saturday, October 10, 2015 to commemorate International Day of the Girl Child.
One third of girls in the developing world are married before the age of 18 and 1 in 9 are married before the age of 15 (the International Center for Research on Women). Among Afghans, the reality is even more grim: over 40% of girls are married by 18 (UNICEF).
This year WAW is walking to end child marriage. Honor the girls in your life and stand in solidarity with Afghan girls by walking or supporting this event!
Three ways to participate:
1) Register to walk with us in Brooklyn, NY by clicking on the JOIN THE EVENT button above. We will walk approximately 2 miles, partly across the Brooklyn Bridge!
Tickets are only $10! Children 12 years old and younger are free and do not need to be registered.
2) Host your own walkathon! Contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org for support. Don't forget to start your own team here!
3) Fundraise and donate on this page!
All funds raised will go toward the empowerment and protection of Afghan girls and women through Women for Afghan Women's programs in Afghanistan and New York.
SHARE this Crowdrise page with family, friends, and colleagues to raise money to help end child marriage and protect Afghan girls. Read New York Times articles here and here to learn how Women for Afghan Women protects girls and women.
