VALLEY PARK MIDDLE SCHOOL: HELPING OUR GLOBAL NEIGHBOURS!
EVENT DATE: Jun 01, 2016
WHAT DOES EXTREME POVERTY LOOK LIKE?
This is a question that we as students wanted answers for. Extreme poverty affects 1.2 billion children worldwide, and the Syrian refugee crisis has become the biggest humanitarian crisis of our time.
This "cycle of poverty" is very difficult to break without YOUR help!
WHAT CAN YOU DO TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE?
It's easy! Start by watching the Public Service Announcements we have created to bring awareness to the human tragedy happening worldwide.
Next, come to our Fundraiser for Syrian Refugees on WEDNESDAY, JUNE 1st at Valley Park Middle School.
All donations the night of the event will go directly to the Syrian families with us now in our school. Bring a can of food, or a gently used shirt you don't wear anymore. Donate a dollar, or maybe twenty! (Unfortunately, we are unable to issue tax receipts for cash donations on the night of the event).
Donate to any of the foundations posted below! Tax receipts will be issued via email.
Enjoy a Gallery Walk of all our students hard work on extreme poverty, as well as the documentary of our "Service Week" for our school and community, created by the highly accredited film maker, Sidrah Laldin.
In efforts to better understand hardships of refugee life, we are going to show the documentary, "Salam Neighbor", where a team of filmmakers spent one month living alongside 85,000 Syrian refugees in the Za'atari refugee camp in Jordan. They are the only film crew that the UN has ever allowed into a camp anywhere in the world to film in this way.
