One Out of Every 30 Children in the United States is Homeless.
Los Angeles County is the Homeless Capital of the United States. Founded in 1990, Upward Bound House (UBH) is dedicated to eliminating homelessness among families with young children in Los Angeles County by providing housing, supportive services, and advocacy. UBH serves homeless families by helping them return to permanent housing and achieve financial stability, catching them as early as possible to prevent them from spiraling into chronic homelessness. Since 1997, Upward Bound House has helped over 900 families, including over 1,700 children, transition from homelessness into permanent housing. Over 90% of these families were able to remain in their homes a year after placement.
Upward Bound House is among a handful of organizations implementing a rapid re-housing program for homeless families in L.A. County. This effective program model emphasizes family-centered supportive services that help families make a permanent transition to independence and stability as soon as possible. As the entire family deals with the trauma of homelessness, we help parents regain their footing by enhancing their parenting and life skills, and also help them increase their income through job training, employment, linkages to mainstream benefits and job retention services.
Upward Bound House operates two temporary housing facilities located in safe, supportive communities and offers a dignified living experience in environments developed specifically for families with young children. Our programs model independent living by providing families temporary housing in an apartment-setting, promoting more rapid and successful reintegration into mainstream life. It also allows families to remain together during their time of crisis, which improves the long-term outlook for all family members. UBH is one of the few programs that accept dual parent homeless families, homeless families with teenaged children, and single parent fathers.
Our programs assist approximately 175 families including 313 children annually. Any donation you make to UBH means that you understand just how important having a place to call home changes the life trajectory of homeless children and their families. With your gift, you become a part of turning our mission - to end homelessness among families with young children - into a reality.
A donation of any size is valuable and can make a difference for families impacted by homelessness. You can help move families out of homelessness and into hopeful, stable futures. Thank you for your support!
