This year Umoja's 6 Peace Rooms across Chicago will reach more than 1,500 students! We want that number to increase and we need your help to do it. Help us strengthen and expand our Restorative Justice work for more Chicago high schools. Let's get Peace Rooms to all students in all schools.
What is a Peace Room?
It's a place for students and staff to resolve conflicts peacefully! Umoja's Peace Rooms serve as physical spaces for restorative practices that help students learn how to restore conflicts, and provide an alternative to traditional discipline responses like detention, suspension and explusion.
Why does it matter?
Last year Umoja's school partners with Peace Rooms were able to decrease their suspension rates by almost 50% on average. We also kept students in school 1,200 additional days by using restorative practices to solve issues, instead of simply suspending students.
