ORGANIZER: The Ulman Cancer Fund for Young Adults, Inc.
EVENT DATE: Nov 06, 2016
Hi, my name is Colin Castner and I am very proud to be a member of Team Fight’s New York City Marathon 2016 team! I currently live in North Carolina with my wonderful wife and son. When I am not running, as you can see from the scrolling pix on the left, I enjoy hiking/backpacking, winter sports, time with my family and watching Florida State sports, Go Noles!
I attempted to think of some profound words or messaging to convey as an introduction to my fundraising campaign. However, as I am no wordsmith, instead I chose to get straight to the point. The bottom line is that cancer sucks! I cannot say it any more emphatically and I will not mince words. I hazard a guess that anyone reading this message has been affected by cancer in their lives in one fashion or another. Personally, both my father and father- in-law lost battles with cancer as have members of my extended family. Several childhood friends and college friends have lost their battles with cancer. Now sadly, I am starting to witness cancer affecting the children of my childhood friends. So whether personal exposure or even that of your sports or big screen heroes, we’ve all witnessed how terrible and disruptive cancer can be in the victim’s lives and families of those affected with cancer.
For that reason, I knew I wanted to help make a difference in some way to support those stricken with cancer and their families as well. Team UCF is a unique cause and their focus demographic of the young adult population is very much needed. So please read more about The Ulman Fund below and about Team Fight on their website ulmancancerfund.org. Please consider a donation to my fundraising campaign to help with their very worthy cause. Every bit helps and all donations go straight to the Ulman Fund, not to me personally. Even if I end up crawling across the finish line in Central Park, I assure you I will do my best on race day to represent the team. As we get closer to race day I will share updates with you too. We sincerely thank you for your support!

The Ulman Cancer Fund for Young Adults changes lives by creating a community of support for young adults, and their loved ones, impacted by cancer. With your support, the Ulman Cancer Fund is able to provide multiple support services and resources for the young adult cancer community, including:
Cancer to 5K - a free, progressive, 12-week run/walk program designed to reintroduce cancer survivors to physical activity. The Team Fight New York City Marathon Team directly funds this life-changing program for survivors living in New York City and across the United States!
Patient Navigation - a free program (onsite at five major cancer centers and remotely via email and phone) that ensures no young adult faces cancer alone. We provide one-on-one support and resources to young adults and their families to help them manage the cancer experience and long-term cancer survival.
Scholarships - a financial assistance program to help young adults continue their education after being affected by cancer through their own diagnosis or the diagnosis of a loved one.
Thank you for all your time and effort to help make these programs and our mission possible!
Cancer changes lives…so do WE!
