BENEFITING: Transportation Alternatives, Inc.
ORGANIZER: Transportation Alternatives, Inc.
As an avid runner for all of my life, and, more recently, as a commuter cyclist and daily pedestrian in NYC, I've joined up with Transportation Alternatives, New York City's #1 advocate for biking, walking, and public transit, to run the TCS NYC Marathon on November 5, 2017.
I've been a Transportation Alternatives member since 2013 because I believe in its mission of making NYC's totally crazy and frequently dangerous streets safer, more sustainable, and more equitable for all, because we all use them everyday. That means working to eliminate car crash deaths and injuries in the city, helping to develop protected bike lanes and the City Bike bike share program, advocating for pedestrian plazas and increased Select (express) bus service, and reducing the speed limit in NYC (now at a life-saving 25 MPH).
You might not live in NYC but Transportation Alternatives is working for a safer, more sustainable, next generation metropolis, and as cities around the country inspire each other to implement initiatives and innovate for the future, its advocacy efforts effect you too, wherever you are.
I hope you will support me and more people-friendly cities in my first New York City Marathon. Running through the city's five boroughs and distinct neighborhoods will be a much different experience than my first marathon through pasture land and forest in France in 2010, but I'm excited to run the TCS NYC Marathon to experience in an unforgettable way this incredible megacity I have grown to love. And if you live in NYC, if you donate $50 or more, you can join me at TransAlt because your donation will get you a year long membership in return! Thanks for reading and for your support.
