BENEFITING: Planting Peace
Each year Planting Peace transforms the Equality House for one week, painting it the colors of the transgender flag. Last year, 8 year old Avery Jackson, a transgender child, visited the house while it was painted with transgender pride and realized there must be a community of people who would support her. It was that day she decided to start showing her face in pictures because she knew she'd be safe and accepted. "I loved the Rainbow House when it was painted like the transgender flag. I felt so happy and proud to be transgender." Avery's story touched us so much that Planting Peace has joined forces with her to expand one house over from the Equality House and permanently paint our neighboring house the color of the transgender flag, growing our presence of peace and acceptance for all people directly across from the Westboro Baptist Church, a hate group internationally known for it's vile campaigns against the LGBT community. "The Equality House has always been a positive, iconic landmark for LGBT people to visit," says Debi Jackson, Avery's mother. "I would love to see a Transgender House embraced the same way--with enthusiasm, love and pride." Planting Peace invites you to join with Avery to help create this new symbol of love and support for the transgender community.
