EVENT: Mighty Mac Swim 2016
EVENT DATE: Sep 05, 2016
Tom Kennary taught me to swim in 1968 at Denby High School through the Detroit Parks and Recreation Department. He became my first coach when I joined the swim team the following year. I competed until I graduated from De La Salle High School where I captained the team my senior year. My events were 100Fly and 200IM and I was NEVER a distance swimmer. 30+ years later, I was introduced to my trainer/coach, Kelly Fletcher, and triathlons. I was cycling and doing many charity rides so I decided to take spinning classes in the winter. Kelly drafted my wife, Andi, and I for her triathlon team. Since then I have competed in several triathlons up to half-iron distance, two half marathons and the 2015 Swim to the Moon 5K. I was considering the Swim from Alcatraz when I learned about the Mighty Mac Swim from a friend. The MMS is a great challenge for a great cause! I am excited to be a part of the swim and to raise money for Habitat for Humanity. I will do the training and swimming, but I need your help with the fundraising. The swim is 4.2 miles and I need to raise at least $4,800. That is about $1.50 per yard. Please sponsor as many yards as you can. All donations are greatly appreciated! THANK YOU!
