We're riding mostly for the ice cream but love the bike path and wanted to help raise money to help expand it. The Friends of the Mattapoisett Bike Path is an all-volunteer non-profit 501c3 organization, working since 1999 to complete Mattapoisett’s portion of the federally funded South Coast Bikeway. We fund raise, provide information and generate support for Mattapoisett’s Rail Trail. We network with local communities to support their pathway initiatives. This year the Mattapoisett Land Trust will use their portion of the proceeds to help purchase the Hammond Quarry property on Mattapoisett Neck Road and the Friends of the Mattapoisett Bike Path will use their portion to help build a section of bike path to connect Mattapoisett to the Marion bike path. In 2017, they hope to reach these milestones: Mattapoisett Center to Fairhaven connection: Bidding and construction start for the one mile segment between Mattapoisett Neck Road and Depot Street, and Mattapoisett to Marion connection: Kickoff capital campaign to pave one-half mile of bike path that will link Industrial Drive to Marion’s 3.5 mile bike path, which is scheduled for 2020.
