Monica K. Murphy is a native of Baton Rouge who began her dancing career at age 8 where she first met Garland Goodwin. She no longer dances but her passion for dance remains. Although currently in IT at Lamar Advertising, Monica has worked with the other dance companies, both as dancer and as costume mistress; she also has a history of volunteering, primarily with her church St. James Episcopal, of which she is a lifelong member. She first volunteered with OMC in 2014 when her daughter began dancing in the annual Kick It Out production. With a degree in International Economics, Monica has had the great pleasure to live, work, travel, and study on 6 continents. She has attended many performances by professional companies all over the world and knew she was witnessing a world-class performance when she attended the much acclaimed “Romeo & Juliet” in 2015. OMC has shown itself to be so much more than a local dance company that Monica joined the board in 2016; she feels privileged to be a part of this stunning organization.
Monica joined the Of Moving Colors board in 2016 to be a part of and promote OMC; Thirty for 30 lets her do both! Dancing for this fundraiser lets her be part of something bigger than herself and be more involved in this extraordinary city that is her home.
