BENEFITING: THINK PINK ROCKS
ORGANIZER: THINK PINK ROCKS
EVENT DATE: Nov 06, 2016
I am running the 2016 TCS New York City Marathon to honor my mom, Sandy Goodwin, who is a breast cancer survivor. She was diagnosed with breast cancer last year, and after a lumpectomy, chemotherapy, and radiation she is currently cancer free. Although her treatment is over, the physical reminders and emotional scars are still present in our family life. We have become much more aware of what we are putting into our bodies on a daily basis and how that affects our overall health. My mom has been my best friend my whole life, and the thought of losing her to cancer has been terrifying. Being by her side during various procedures, treatments, recoveries, and emotional breakdowns has not only brought us closer together, but also has opened my eyes to the world of cancer and cancer treatment. I would like to become an advocate for cancer patients and survivors and do what I can to find better treatment options and put an end to breast cancer. I am also a mother of two young girls, and I see that I need to take action now so that they won’t have to face this terrible disease.
It has been my dream to run the New York City Marathon for quite a few years now. I can't think of a better tour of the greatest city in the world than to run 26.2 miles through its streets. My mom, my mother-in-law, and my two girls will be joining me for marathon weekend. I would love to run this race for my mom knowing that I have contributed to breast cancer research. Meeting her at the finish line would be the most incredible experience. I hope also to inspire my daughters to set goals, work for a cause they believe in, and find joy in doing things they love.
Please consider donating to an incredible cause for breast cancer research and supporting me as I honor my mom. All of the money raised for Think Pink Rocks from the 2016 TCS New York City Marathon will benefit breast cancer research at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City and Breast Oncology Center at the University of Michigan. Thank you!
