Sia Robinson

In 1996 Omo Moses and his brother Taba along with Khari Milner traveled to Jackson Mississippi to work with the Algebra Project at the Sam M. Brinkley Middle School. These 3 students along with nine other 8th grade Algebra Project students from the Brinkley Middle School created The Young People's Project. This new Project was founded on the belief that there is work that young people can and must do to change the conditions of their lives and that math literacy work was a good place to start. Today the Young People's Project is helping build quantitative literacy and citizenship in students assigned to the bottom economic quartile in several geographic locations across the United States. This fundraising event is designated to support the YPP operating in Southeast Michigan.

In the same way that Ella Baker helped fashion a space for the students who sat-in to think and organize for themselves, the Algebra Project provided a space for YPP to grow and develop...........Omo Moses, YPP Founder

In almost 40 years of educational service I know no greater initiatives designed specifically to build the quantitative literacy and citizenship of disenfranchised children than the social justice movements; The Algebra Project and Young People's Project, both born of the incredible determination of Robert Moses.
