The Signals Network is a 501c3 non-profit organization in the United States. Our goal is to create a proactive dynamic towards whistleblowers.

Whistleblowers are essential players in uncovering wrongdoing committed by the powerful and in strengthening our democracies. We owe our knowledge of the truth to many known and unknown whistleblowers all over the world. We need more whistleblowers to build a more transparent society. Whistleblowers often face legal, physical, psychological, and economic consequences as a result of their actions. Those who risk their lives and livelihoods to bring us the truth deserve our support.

Our first program is the Whistleblower Protection Program which affords customized support services (legal, psychological, PR management, advocacy, online security, temporary safe-housing) to a selected number of whistleblowers who have contributed to published media reports of significant wrongdoing. The program is now operational in 10 countries: France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and the United States. The whistleblowers we are currently supporting revealed the biggest media stories of our time from football corruption to #Metoo and political propaganda online.

Our second program focuses on supporting investigative collaborations, so newsrooms are better prepared to work with whistleblowers. We play a project management role in the collaborative efforts of our media partners (Miami Herald/McClatchy, The Intercept, Die Zeit, El Mundo, Mediapart, The Daily Telegraph,.. - a combined audience of 150 million readers worldwide in 4 languages). We provide our media partners access to a network of lawyers to which they can refer putative whistleblowers who are in need of legal counsel. As a first step, our media partners chose to investigate and call for information on the misuse of big data. Their first investigation was published in May. They are now investigating new documents provided by new whistleblowers.
