The Shield Institute is a human-service organization dedicated to improving the lives of children, adolescents, and adults with intellectual/developmental disabilities. As the coronavirus continues to touch lives within our communities, we understand now more than ever that our strength lies within our ability to come together and support one another. It’s not just funding that has sustained the Shield for 99 years, it’s our people, our guiding principles and the selfless hearts of our generous supporters.
During this critical time, the children, adults, and families we serve have limited access to their day to day supports. Many parents/caretakers have been recently unemployed by the crisis, and everyone is coping with living in isolation. The Shield works within some of the nation’s most impoverished communities. Prior to the impact of this pandemic, many families were already struggling to put food on the table.
Employees of The Shield Institute have shifted gears and continue to provide essential services remotely. The economic impact, however, of this unprecedented circumstance is vast. A gift of support to The Shield Institute at this critical time will go a long way in providing for New Yorkers with intellectual/developmental disabilities, and their families.
With so many vulnerable New Yorkers suffering, the need for our services has never been greater. Will you rise to the occasion, and help them today?
