DRIVING A MOTORCYCLE FROM INDIA TO SPAIN TO RAISE MONEY FOR CHARITY! DONORS GET A POSTCARD!
Yes that's right! India to Spain on a motorcycle! And not just any motorcycle, a vintage Royal Enfield with a engine that basically has not been reengineered for the last 65 years! I began my trip in New Delhi on November 25th, 2013 and will drive the motorcycle through India and Nepal for several months before heading west towards Spain crossing about 20 countries and totaling roughly 17,000k (10,000 miles)!!! I hope to arrive in Barcelona late summer 2014. But I don't want to talk too much here about that...right now I want to talk about my goal to raise money for some important causes. If you want to know details about the trip or to subscribe to my blog so you get updates from the road, you can CLICK HERE.
Think its a cool idea? Want to wish me well? Want to follow the trip with stories and photos? Well, aside from following my blog you can show your support by donating to my charitable fundraising campaign. And for anyone who gives more than US$50 I will send you a postcard from somewhere along the way! Or, instead of giving some material gift to that friend or family member for Christmas or their birthday, why not make a charitable donation in their name and let THEM be surprised to get a postcard from Turkmenistan, Sri Lanka, or some other country I pass through! For more on how the postcard thing works check out the last paragraph.
I know everyone feels more passionate about some causes than others, so I hand selected four charities and I hope one of them will appeal to your philanthropic taste buds. The four charities support the following issues (click to learn more about the charity): Cancer Research, Poverty, Environment/Conservation, & Human Rights.
I believe when we give money to causes that it should be well used, so each of the organizations I chose have been rated 4 out of 4 stars by Charity Navigator for financial performance, proper use of funds, accountability, and transparency. All you need is a credit card to donate...it literally only takes one minute to fill it all out and you're done. So PLEASE if you want to support me in this endeavor, please consider giving some. I have set a goal of $25,000. I know it’s crazy (Or is it?). But I think it is at least possible. If you own a business think about donating in the name of your business or one of your business partners. Anyone who gives $250 or more I will also give a special thanks in my blog unless you choose to remain anonymous.
So how does this postcard things work?
Well, you donate more than $50 and I will send a postcard to you or anyone you want. You can give me a one sentence personal message to write on it and I will sign any name you want. Get creative with it! Imagine your friend Bob who lives next door has a birthday coming up, you donate $100 in his name. One day you watch Bob walk to his mailbox where he finds a postcard that says "When are you going to cut your grass you lazy bum! Happy Birthday!"...the postcard comes from Azerbaijan and has YOUR name on it! And later you can email him the confirmation of the charitable donation that was made in his name.
Here is how to do it: (might want to start by copying these instructions and pasting them on your clipboard)...If you are contributing $50 or more...when you make your donation check the box that says "Yes, this is a gift...etc etc." Then, click “DONATE”. Next, in the "TO" email box put this email address: firstname.lastname@example.org. In the "FROM" boxes put your personal info. Finally, select to "Write my own message" and in that box put:
- The name and address of the person you wish to receive the postcard
- The approximate date you want me to post it.
- Your one sentence personal message (Make sure to say who it’s from unless you want them guessing!)
You will also get an email confirmation that you can chose to send to your friend if you wish.
SO, MY NEW AND OLD FRIENDS ACROSS THE GLOBE,
PLEASE SUPPORT MY JOURNEY BY CONTRIBUTING A BIT
TO MAKE THE WORLD A BETTER PLACE! THANK YOU!!!
