Solange Bwanya Fitina runs a tailoring shop in Kigali, Rwanda. For years, she struggled to provide for her family and could not afford to send her children to school. She had the skills to be a seamstress, but did not have the resources to turn her ability into a business.
Then, Solange discovered Opportunity International.
With the help of loans and business training from Opportunity, Solange was able to purchase machinery and materials to expand her business, which now includes wedding garment rentals. Now, Solange can afford school fees not only for her children, but also for her younger sister and teenage niece. She also supports both her parents and her in-laws.
In addition to building her business and creating a bright future for her family, Solange is transforming her community. She offers classes that help people in her neighborhood develop retail businesses of their own. So far, she has taught more than 70 people – including six for whom she granted scholarships for free tuition.
Solange epitomizes Opportunity International’s work around the world.
