The Keychain of Kindness
Organized by: Esther Vardy
Keychains for Kindness is a small way to do a huge thing. It's my way of fulfulling my desire to make an inoact in the world. As a woodworker and someone living with bipolar, I am combining two things I am most passionate about. Using salvaged wood to make quirky, one of a kind things, and advocating for mental health. After 15 years of struggling and navigating through the insanity (i could use other words, but I don't know what I am allowed to say on here) bipolar and the mental health system, I have created sSomething that reminds you you are loved, and that you have been loving towards someone else. Something that works. A system of techniques, skills, activities, exercises, meal plans, and a team of professionals, that when put together = wellness. Yes, real wellness! I am convinced I am not the only person this will work for. I also have a background in event planning and an amazing group of people who are willing to help me host workshops to give all these tools to those who need it. Key word...give. The events will be offered at no cost to the participant and we will host as many workshops as we need to, as long as we have people who want to come. Hence the need for funds. The money from each keychain will go to get this up and running, and host the workshops. Each keychain will have a motivational message one side, and the mental health ribbon on the other, and if requested the name of someone you would like to dedicate your donation to. Could even be yourself! A list of first names will also be on our website to show not only how many people are out there who need the help, but more importantly to show that every name means someone out there cared enough to pledge thier support. Motivational messages, love notes, cards, text messages and facebook posts have been what reminds me of how much I am loved, despite how unloveable I may feel at times, or how unloving I can be when my illness takes centre stage. That's where this idea came from. I want all of you to have your own personal message, that you carry with you everyday. A small keychain with a loving message on it, will make a huge difference to the lives of people living with mental illness, in St. John's. We need your help to make this happen. As a thank you for your support, your keychain will remind you everyday of the difference you have made. Something that reminds you, you are loved. After all, isn't that what makes the world go round?
The process is simple, send us your mailing address, your name (and name of loved one you are supporting, and a minimum donation of $10, and your KFK is in the mail!
thank you, thank you, thank you. Xo
