BENEFITING: FAMILY PROMISE OF GREATER CHATTANOOGA INC
EVENT DATE: Nov 07, 2015
Family Promise of Greater Chattanooga is hosting its seventh annual "Camp Out" on Saturday, Nov. 7, at 5 p.m. through Sunday, Nov. 8 at 7 a.m. on UTC's campus at the Lupton Library Parking Garage! Youth groups, families, volunteers and other campers will learn what it’s like to be homeless by building their own cardboard box living space in our Box City (or just by bringing their own camping equipment), spending the night outdoors in an “urban campground” setting and eating food similar to what is provided to the homeless in our community at a soup kitchen. Prizes will be awarded for the best box cities built by a group or individual and for the most pledges raised by a group.
This year's Camp Out features our namesake 'Box City Challenge' in which teams envision and create their own Box City living spaces. Of course there will be games, music and crafts. As always, security will be present during the entire event.
The Parking Garage at UTC's Lupton Library was chosen as this year's venue to help simulate the homeless experience for our attendees. Structures like parking garages can be used by homeless people for shelter at night. If you think about it, it's a relatively good place to get out of the elements -- garages are covered, not commonly used overnight and have places where someone looking for shelter can hide out of sight. Tickets can be purchased at this link: REGISTER HERE!
All Camp Out proceeds benefit FPGC programs that assist families in need become stable, employed, and housed.
