I first heard of Love Your Brain after watching the riveting documentary The Crash Reel, chronicling the life of prosnowboarder Kevin Pearce. I was so moved by the story that I started researching him to see if he had any events or if he could be booked to do a talk. Much to my surprise, I was put in contact with his agent and we started planning for Kevin to come to the University of Lethbridge to tell his story.
Fast forward about a year and a half later and here we are. I will have the opportunity to attend the Love Your Brain Retreat held at Zeno Mountain Farm in Vermont, USA. Why am I so excited about this?
- This camp is offered to individuals with varying levels of traumatic brain injuries for FREE.
- It combines everything I love: nature, running, yoga, ambitious people, and best of all...delicious food.
- Lastly, I've worked at getting my B.Sc. in Neuroscience for the past 5 years at the University of Lethbridge, and the work that LYB does is exactly why I went into the Neuroscience program in the first place. I've always wanted to use my education to help individuals and this program does exactly that on a daily basis.
I will be covering the half marathon distance in this race. I will be running to help raise awareness for those that have sustained a traumatic brain injury, as well as those that have been affected by one. Plus, running is my own kind of therapy and I hope to spread my love of running to as many people as I can!
