This year Santa Monica is partnering with LAUSD’s Homeless Education Program to adopt Los Angeles-area families.

Washington DC is partnering with the city’s Homeless Children & Youth Program to adopt DC-area families.

A portion of the funds we raise this year will also go to support those families affected and displaced by the recent California wildfires.

Last year we sponsored a total of 8 families across DC and LA. Here is one of their stories: Evelin and her five children were victims of violence in their home country of Honduras, a country that has one of the highest homicide rates in the world. As a result, they are asking for asylum in the United States, as they fear for their lives back home. Due to Evelin’s current undocumented status, she struggled to find work and provide basic necessities for her family. She doesn't have a fixed income and works odd jobs here and there. She cannot afford to pay rent on an apartment, especially one that would accommodate her large family. The family of seven temporarily lived in a small garage in crowded living conditions, but this is the only option they had.
