Carrie Lowell wrote -In 2011 a sweet, funny, super strong 12 year old boy named Ryan Reardon, lost his eight year struggle with Neuroblastoma. Ryan’s fondest wish was for a cure to be found for Neuroblastoma. Ryan fought through chemotherapy, radiation and surgeries, all the while reaching out to other children at the hospital who had been recently diagnosed. My steps are for the first superhero to steal my heart, Ryan. This run is in support of an organization that was started by Deana and Jim Cavan in 2015 just four months after their 10 month old son, Everett (Rett) passed from a rare and aggressive cancer. I followed his story and held my breath each time I read an update. Their mission: A peaceful, supportive place for families that have experienced life with childhood cancer first-hand. Our core values are rooted in empathy, acceptance, and the mind-body-spirit connection.
