Tents to Nepal is a fast-growing grassroots venture providing both immediate and long-term relief to Nepal’s most affected villages, in the form of tents and other critical supplies. Over 300,000 families have been left without a roof in Nepal, and close to 8,000 schools have been flattened, leaving many survivors without food, water, or shelter.
In the wake of Nepal’s devastating earthquakes, 32,000 classrooms across 8,000 schools are in ruins. As a result, many of Nepal’s 950,000 school children did not have classrooms to return to on the 1st of June, when schools across the country re-opened.
It will take time and money to rebuild the school buildings, but the transitional classrooms that have been designed by ABARI and Learning Planet take less than 48 hours to set up. More than 100 schools have been erected so far in Gorkha – one of the worst-affected areas - by the Learning Planet and ABARI teams. These transitional classrooms are made with high quality canvases provided by #TentsToNepal. The target is to have transitional schools set up across all 14 districts by monsoon.
These transitional schools provide children with a sheltered space to study, spend time together, and feel safe, particularly during the coming monsoon season. Within each of the tents two classes can take place at one time, hosting up to 80 children at a time.
Tunnel classrooms cost $450-550 to construct, depending on their size, and yurts for higher altitudes cost up to $850. These figures include wages for carpenters and local labor assistance.
Individual donations of any amount are greatly appreciated. If you feel inspired, you may also like to share with your friends, colleagues or community to provide a transitional classroom as collective donation.

100 percent of the funds will be used to buy canvas/supplies and shipping tents to Nepal. Friends of Ramana's Garden is a non-profit 501c.
Tents To Nepal was initiated by Olivier Zitoun and Ramana's Garden (an orphanage in Rishikesh - India). It is being supported by hundreds of donors throughout the world, including ORGANIC INDIA (a Tulsi Tea & True Wellness company – India) and UPLIFT (a collaborative media platform celebrating Oneness In Action – global).
Through a dynamic collaboration between ABARI (a Nepalese design and construction company), Learning Planet (a socially and environmentally-committed educational nonprofit), and Friends of India - Giving Back (an Australian volunteering organization), #TentsToNepal are providing high quality canvases for the construction of sustainably designed community spaces, health posts and transitional classrooms in 14 districts surrounding Gorkha.
