SARAH, AMY & JULIE ARE CALIFORNIA STATE CAPTAINS FOR TEAM WINTER-Million Mile March!!!
WE WILL BE WALKING OR RUNNING 100 MILES DURING MARCH 2012, HELP US BRING AWARENESS FOR PROSTATE CANCER-
Put your feet to the test!! Join us 3 sisters from Napa, California, together with ‘Team Winter’ in an ambitious fundraiser to provide funds for continued research for prostate cancer!!!
Our motivation stems from 3 important men in our family; our Grandfather, Father and Uncle. This disease has taken our Grandfather’s life and threatened our Uncle and Father, who are currently living with the cancer at young ages. It has drastically changed our Father’s life and we watch him struggle everyday just to feel “normal.” Unfortunately, after inquiring about treatment options from our Dad's oncologist we found that there aren't many new treatments available for prostate cancer; it just doesn't get the same attention that breast cancer does. Yet 1 in 6 men will develop the cancer and if you look at the stats, a man is 35% more likely to be diagnosed with prostate cancer than a woman is to be diagnosed with breast cancer!
We ask that you join our team!
To participate you need to raise at least $100 by March 1st 2012 and pledge to walk or run 100 miles throughout the month of March. That’s about 3.2 miles/day. You can walk/run your 100 miles alone or encourage others to join the team and do the 100 miles too!
If you are unable to participate, a donation would be greatly appreciated or please spread the word about the need for prostate cancer research to further bring awareness. All proceeds go to Team Winter and they will make a lump sum donation to the Prostate Cancer Foundation (www.pcf.org).
OUR TEAM GOALS:
1) Bring awareness to more people
2) Join a nationwide effort to raise $100,000 to fund research through the Prostate Cancer Foundation, for the purpose of early detection, diagnostics, treatment, and to determine the aggressiveness of the cancer at an earlier stage.
3) Eventually see a prostate cancer walk in California!
