EVENT DATE: Feb 25, 2016
I am raising money during the Remembrance Fitness Event to help create community support programs for marginalized veterans like my Dad. My father walked away from his life twenty years after he came home from Viet Nam. My father functioned as a productive citizen until 1988 when he helped organize a welcome home parade for Viet Nam Veterans, Firebase Cleveland. My Firebase Cleveland was the beginning of my father’s journey into homelessness that has lasted more then 25 years.
I believe that it is important to meet people where they are at and respect that people have their own journey to healing. My goal is to increase the public’s awareness of the long-term affects of war and to tell the stories of war healing from veterans and their families.
Proceeds from the Remembrance Fitness Event helps to support W4C’s veterans programs. Some of the programs offered include:employment, bikes, fitness center memberships, race entries, and healing retreats.
